Ibn Battuta Mall
Some 4km (2.5 miles) south of the Marina lies the quirky Ibn Battuta Mall ¢ [map] (www.ibnbattutamall.com; daily 10am–10pm, Thu–Sat until midnight), situated in something of a no-man’s land at the far southern end of the city, close to the sprawling industrial works and container docks of the Jebel Ali Free Trade Zone. The mall is one of the city’s most outlandish but engaging attractions, inspired by the travels of the famous Moroccan wanderer Ibn Battuta, with different sections themed after six of the many countries and regions he visited – Morocco, Andalusia, Tunisia, Persia, India and China – all designed with Dubai’s characteristic mix of whimsy extravagance and high kitsch.
